What is eco-fashion?Eco-fashion is about making clothes that take into account the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry. It is a complex phenomenon and the common use of the term covers two aspects of fashion —?ecological‘ and ?ethical‘.Ecological fashion usually refers to textile (织物) and clothing

production processes and the environmental issues surrounding them;ethical fashion generally relates to the working conditions involved in the producing processes.

What are the problems with fashion?A closer look at the fashion industry points out many problems that are common practices in the creation of our fashions from the field to the factory. Firstly, the production of textiles pollutes the environment heavily. Cotton-planting uses pesticides;sheep-farming and wool-cleaning contribute to global warming;synthetics-making (人造纤维生产) brings about waste which does harm to our environment. Secondly, every stage of clothing production has a significant effect on the environment. They all use a great deal of energy, and some also involve harmful chemicals. In addition to this, there is a lot of waste produced in the process, especially in the form of polluted water. Thirdly, growing consumption levels and our shopping habits further worsen the bad effects. We are now buying clothes in increasing quantities without realizing the scale on which it affects natural environment, and we are also quick to throw away clothes that have been worn only a couple of times.

Then, how to solve the problems? Other industries that design products are ahead of the fashion industry when it comes to choosing sustainable materials, designing for minimum waste, choosing energy efficient manufacturing and creating products for longevity. The fashion industry has been slow to adopt these changes and part of the problem is the very nature of fashion. To a large degree,it is the fashion producers that really have the power and the responsibility to shape our future. There are numerous ways in which these producers can reduce their ecological footprint, from switching to green energy and reducing energy use, through selecting sustainable materials and choosing local suppliers,to recycle and minimize waste. On the other hand,as consumers we can all make contributions by selecting environmentally friendly clothing and reducing clothing consumption.

There is some concern that eco friendly fashions are just a trend that we will eventually grow tired of but we can make sure that doesn't happen. Now many people are beginning to shop for organic food products because the benefits of eating food free of chemicals are straightforward and immediate. They relate directly to our personal health. In fact, choosing eco-fashion can also contribute to our personal health, though it is mostly done by way of keeping the health of the planet.

Why choose eco-fashion?

An oral history is a piece of writing based on an interview with a person who has lived through a significant period in history or experienced a historical event. His or her memories provide a personal view of the past.

The first goal of all oral histories is to record stories about a specific subject. That subject may be a historical event like the D-Day invasion. It may be a period of history like the Depression, or a social or cultural trend, such as child labor. The first step in an oral history project, therefore, is to select a subject that interests you and is of historical significance.

Before attempting to identify people to interview for your project, you must first gather background information about the subject. The Library of Congress, which houses thousands of oral histories, provides these tips for researching your subject.

Before entering the library or logging onto the internet, decide on key words to use in your search. Use detailed search words. For example, search for rock and roll of the ‘60s instead of the more general term music.

Look through newspaper and magazine articles and Internet Web sites to identify documents

that are related to your subject. Make copies of those that will help you plan your interview questions and discard all others.

Discuss what you‘ve read about your subject surprised you? What aspect of your subject would you like to know more about? Asking questions like these will help you to focus your subject and to identify the voice or voices you need to interview.

Oral histories are as much about self as they are about subject. One goal of an oral history interview is to find out what happened. A second and equally important goal is to discover how people reacted to or were affected by what happened. The person you select to interview, therefore, should have had some experience with the subject – either as a participant or a witness.

Once you have identified one or more people to interview, begin preparing your questions. The best questions are open-ended, encouraging the speaker to resp ond with more than a mere ―Yes‖ or ―No.‖ For example, an interviewer might have asked Clarence Hughart this question about his D-Day experience: Were you scared? That question, however, would probably not have elicited the sort of dramatic storytelling that Hughart provided.

Make a list of ten possible interview questions. The first two or three should be fairly general, asking the interviewee to talk about his or her childhood, perhaps. These kinds of questions put people at ease. Save more sensitive questions until the interview has been underway for five, 10, or 15 minutes or more.

After the interview come the final steps: writing a summary of the interview and then shaping it into a finished piece of writing.

One possible version:

2010 sees the celebration of the fifteenth World Book Day. Books are very important in our daily life because they have recorded the history and the wisdom of human beings. Books are also works of art and science, and vehicles for ideas. Books improve our understanding of the world. Good books can bring us a large fortune. They also provide development opportunities for all ages and, in particular, for us young people. We should know that a person who doesn‘t read has no future, nor does a nation.

I have loved reading since I began to study in primary school. But, being a high school student, I have been burdened with heavy school works and haven‘t had much time to read books. I shoul d try to do some reading every day though I‘m busy preparing for the university entrance examinations. And I will not only read ancient Chinese masterpieces but also foreign literature books.

One possible version:

Study is very important for every individual because we have to acquire new and advanced knowledge to keep pace with the rapid development of science and technology. The fierce competition pushes every one of us to seize every opportunity to study. And as the future generation of China, we should equip ourselves with rich knowledge to make our country stronger and more powerful.

What makes successful learners? Successful learners are similar in many ways. They are independent thinkers and take an active and positive attitude towards their study. Besides, they have clear objectives in mind. They know themselves well and have the competence of applying what they have learnt to practice.

How can we be successful learners? In my opinion, first of all, we should develop our interest in study, as the saying goes, ―Interest is the best teacher.‖ Second, we should form the habit of making plans for our study and keeping a good balance between study and entertainment. Last but not the least, remember not to depend on our teachers or textbooks only.

In recent years, more and more high school students choose to study abroad.

One possible version:

In recent years, more and more high school students choose to study abroad. And the hottest countries they go are the US, the UK and Australia. Besides, Canada is also a popular country.

Those who go study abroad vary from strong students to weak ones. It is said the admission process for universities abroad is quite different from ours. They don‘t have examinations like Gaokao, which is almost the only bridge leading to universities in China. What the universities see important in an applicant is not only their academic performance, but also their social skills. Of course, for some students, applying for an overseas school is a way for them to avoid Chinese Gaokao, which to a large extend will bring them failure rather than success. Due to this, I feel concerned about their being successful abroad.

Anyways, everyone has their rights to choose where to have their university education, abroad or not, if it‘s a good choice for you, go for it.

Natural disasters left students in miserable life. However, they never gave up study.

Natural disasters left students in miserable life. However, they never gave up study. As it‘s shown in the two pictures, in a primary school in Yunan, students are learning attentively even though they were in serious trouble of lacking food and drinkable water. It is obvious that they want to equip herself with knowledge. A girl stood in front of ruins after the earthquake, holding her books firmly in hand. There is no doubt that she is thirsty for knowledge.

The students in the two photos deserve our admiration. Though experiencing disasters, they still have a strong desire for study. Their perseverance and striving spirit touched everyone‘s heart..

The two photos also let me know that I should value what I have. When facing a sticky problem, I won‘t give up. I will regard devotion as my goal in life, having more diligence and fewer complaints. Meanwhile, I appeal to the whole society to take actions to improve their living conditions.

Most damagingly, anger weakens a person's ability to think clearly and keep control over his behavior. The angry person loses objectivity in evaluating the emotional significance of the person or situation that arouses his anger. Not everyone experiences anger in the same way; what angers one person may amuse another. The specific expression of anger also differs from person to person based on biological and cultural forces. In contemporary culture, physical expressions of anger are generally considered too socially harmful to be tolerated. We no longer regard duels(决斗) as an appropriate expression of anger resulting from one person's awareness of insulting behavior on the part of another. Anger can be identified in the brain, where the electrical activity changes. Under most conditions EEG (脑电图) measures of electrical activity show balanced activity between the right and left prefrontal (额叶前部) areas. Behaviorally this corresponds to the general even-handed disposition (意向)that most of us possess most of the time. But when we are angry the EEG of the right and left prefrontal areas aren't balanced and. as a result of this, we're likely to react. And our behavioral response to anger is different from our response to other emotions, whether positive or negative. Most positive emotions are associated with approach behavior: we move closer to people we like. Most negative emotions, in contrast, are associated with avoidance behavior: we move away from people and things that we dislike or that make us anxious. But anger is an exception to this pattern. The angrier we are. the more likely we are to move towards the object of our anger. This corresponds to what psychologists refer to as offensive anger: the angry person moves closer in order to influence and control the person or situation causing his anger. This approach-and-confront behavior is accompanied by a leftward prefrontal asymmetry (不对称) of EEG activity. Interestingly, this asymmetry lessens if the angry person can experience empathy (同感) towards the individual who is bringing forth the angry response. In defensive anger, in contrast, the EEG asymmetry is directed to the right and the angry person feels helpless in the face of the anger-inspiring situation.

例如: 28题,选自玛丽·杰克斯(Mary Jaksch) 的What Is Happiness? She was put under house arrest two years ago but remained a powerful symbol in last year's election. 34. Good families are much to all their members, but ________ to none.(2014江苏卷) A. something B. anything C. everything D. nothing Families 家庭 By Jane·Howard 简·霍华德(英汉对照) Each of us is born into one family not of our choosing. If we’re going to go around devising new ones, we might as well have the luxury of picking their members ourselves. Clever picking might result in new families whose benefits would surpass or at least equal those of the old. The new ones by definition cannot spawn us - as soon as they do that, they stop being new - but there is plenty they can do. I have seen them work wonders. As a member in reasonable standing of six or seven tribes in addition to the one I was born to, I have been trying to figure which earmarks are common to both kinds of families.

Even the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese includes 239 English words. Some people support it while others do not. Generally, I am in favour of the inclusion. As the number of English learners is on the rise, it’s not difficult for them to understand these words in Chinese contexts. Besides, it is, on some occasions, more convenient to use English words. Most people nowadays use “IT” instead of its translation “xinxi jishu.” In our global village, we can see that it’s not uncommon for one language to borrow words from other languages. In English, there are many words borrowed from Latin, French, or even Chinese. In fact, Chinese has never stopped taking words from other languages, say, “ganbu” or “minzhu” from Japanese. So, it’s safe to conclude that it is reasonable to include English which facilitates daily communication. With English words getting popular in both media and daily life, a Chinese dictionary has included 239 of them, leaving the public divided into two opposing groups: “For” and “Against.” I tend to take the “Against”side for two reasons. Firstly, this inclusion has actually polluted our mother tongue. Sooner or later, many English accents will rise and fall with the four Chinese tones. And, rules don’t tell us how to pronounce such English-turned Chinese words as “wifi” and “Out”in a Chinese way! Secondly, such an inclusion may give rise to prejudices of the educated against those with little knowledge of English. Just for one illustration, while college students take “Bye-bye”for granted when parting from each other, it may unconsciously hurt the feelings of someone who is used to “zaijian.”
